Assassin and first quest
A week had passed since the first event, and Hyde was working hard to raise his level and skill level.
There was a big update a little while ago, and Hyde also acquired some skills added in that update. However, Hyde has not yet challenged the main feature, the northernmost dungeon, which allows you to go to the second floor by capturing it.
(Although my level and skill level have risen somewhat, it's still not enough to conquer by myself... On the other hand, having other parties join me is...)
About a month after starting the game, the number of friends is still 0. On the contrary, even the number of players who had a conversation was 0 people. It was too high a hurdle for such a Hyde to talk to a player he met for the first time and get him to join the party.
For that reason, Hyde decided to capture it alone, and in order to do so, he desperately raised his level in the northern forest. There are a lot of monsters that link to this field, so he came to practice how to defeat multiple opponents without being detected.
(The hunt is going well so far. Even multiple opponents can be annihilated without being found. I also raised my arms.)
As he was jumping over the trees while praising himself, Hyde caught sight of a small forest hut that seemed to be hidden by the trees.
(What is that hut? It's my first time here, but I've never heard of a hut in such a place. Does it have something to do with the fact that there aren't many monsters around here?)
The point where Hyde is now is a hunting ground where monsters don't appear very often, even though it's in a relatively shallow forest. Although it is a shallow place, it takes a little time to get there because the road is complicated, and it is not popular with ordinary people because it has no taste. However, for Hyde, the lack of popularity was a favorable condition, so he went to try it out.
(There doesn't seem to be anyone around the hut. Are they inside...?)
Hyde fearfully approaches the forest hut because there is no information. At that time, she was suddenly called out from somewhere.
"Wait a minute, you boy."
"...!?"
Hyde was surprised by the sudden voice he heard and quickly looked around, but there was no sign of anyone around.
(Where is it!? There should be no one here, why is there a sudden voice!?)
"I'm upstairs."
Hyde looked up in response to the voice he heard again. For some time now, an old man of about sixty was standing on the roof of the forest hut.
"I'm sorry to startle you. Wait!"
The old man jumped up in an ageless motion, then rolled in the air and landed on the ground.
(What the hell is this guy? He's an old man, but he's got amazing physical abilities... He's a quest NPC, right? His HP bar isn't showing up.)
In NWO, basically only players or monsters have HP bars, NPCs do not. Also, NPCs that talk to you even though you haven't spoken to them are usually NPCs that generate quests.
"Lord, don't you want to gain new power? I will give you a reward when you complete the trial I set out."
A blue panel pops up in front of Hyde.
"Quest [Dark Trial]"
Below the display of the quest name, there were two displays, YES and NO.
(Is this a type of event quest where you can get skill scrolls, like [Super Acceleration]?
If so, there was no need to hesitate, Hyde immediately pressed YES.
"Then I'll give you a trial. There are four-legged carnivorous beasts in a different forest than here. First of all, defeat only five of them. Don't be found."
As soon as the old man finished speaking, a new blue panel appeared with an explanation of the quest.
(The achievement condition is that the old man defeats the specified number of specified monsters, and there is no time limit... it seems that you have to think about the specified monsters yourself.
If it's a different forest than here, then it's not the northern forest, but the western forest around here? The rest is the four-legged carnivore, but this one is easy. So far, wolves are the only four-legged predators in the forest.)
If you go to the northernmost dungeon, bears will appear, but that dungeon is not a forest.
As soon as Hyde finishes considering the target monster and location, he immediately starts running toward the western forest.
(And the word "don't be found"...the quest name has a dark side, so does it mean to assassinate without being found? The problem is whether the target of "not found" is only monsters or does it include players? But... it's better to move on the premise that the player will be included.
Hyde didn't return to the town to avoid being seen, but moved through the forest along the perimeter of the town and headed for the forest to the west.
◇◇◇
Hyde managed to defeat five wolves in the western forest without being seen, and returned to the forest hut to avoid fighting other monsters.
(That old man, the wolf
All of Hyde's predictions so far have been correct. There are two failure conditions that are not on the quest screen.
The first is that you must not be seen by monsters and players during the quest. In order to prevent you from escaping on the verge of being spotted, even if you log out, it will be treated as a failure.
The other is to kill only the specified number of monsters specified by the NPC. At that time, the number of defeats is naturally small, and even if there are too many, the quest will fail.
Also, although Hyde does not know, defeating unspecified monsters will result in a failure. In order to avoid the risk of being found as much as possible, Hyde unconsciously cleared that trap as well.
(This quest is a good training, but it's quite difficult.)
Hyde returns to the forest hut while carefully searching for signs of the surroundings. In front of the forest hut, an old man was standing in the same position as when we left.
"Umu, it's brilliant. Then next is the second trial, do you want to try it?"
"Quest [Dark Trial 2]"
A new quest will occur, and a blue panel will appear in front of Hyde again.
(Isn't it? I thought it wouldn't end with just this. Because just now
Hyde, who expected the continuation quest, immediately presses YES and accepts the quest.
"Only kill ten small humanoids around here."
(This is easy to understand. The only humanoids around here are goblins. In other words, it's a quest to defeat ten goblins. This old man didn't say it, but if you find him, you'll probably be out, just like in the quest earlier.)
Goblins are always linked, but the number starts with three and five at most. If you are lucky enough to find 2 groups of 5 and annihilate the 2 groups so that they can't be found, this quest will end. However, the group of five has a low encounter rate, and the group of three has the most.
(If you encounter a group of three three times, you'll have a total of nine. You'll have to defeat one so that it won't be found by another link...in this case, luck will be involved. There are a lot of monsters other than goblins around here, and there's an explosive ladybird that attacks by itself, so it's troublesome.)
For Hyde, who moves by jumping on tree branches, there is a very high chance that the flying explosive ladybird will be found first, unlike other monsters that move on the ground.
For the time being, the exploding ladybirds are in the depths of the forest, so there's no problem if you don't get close to them, but the trouble is that there are a little more goblins in groups of five in the depths of the forest, and there aren't many other monsters. By the way, the Explosive Ladybug is a monster that is not suitable for hunting, so no one will come except the player who accidentally wandered into it.
(Knowing the risk of an exploding ladybug and eliminating the risk of being seen by many other monsters and players, aim for a group of five goblins and finish the quest quickly, or do your best to avoid other monsters while exploding. Should we look for goblins where there are no ladybirds... or should we move and let our guard down in the same way as we did the hunt earlier?)
After considering the disadvantages of both, Hyde chose to avoid the Explosive Ladybird. Before the quest occurred, he had been hunting in a place where there were no explosive ladybirds, and he was not seen by multiple monster opponents, so he decided that there would be no problem if he followed that procedure.
◇◇◇
That's how Hyde started hunting goblins, but even if he found a goblin link, there were too many other monsters around him, so he gave up, and while he was defeating link, another player approached him and he had to stop. It took a lot of time for it to disappear and so on.
However, as a result, Hyde succeeded in defeating a total of ten goblins without being spotted by monsters or players.
"Umu, it's brilliant. Then I will continue to give you the final trial, but are you going to challenge it?"
As soon as the old man finishes speaking, a blue panel appears in front of Hyde.
"Quest [Dark Trial 3]"
(Grandpa said it was the last, so this is the final quest. Let's clear it without letting our guard down!)
Hyde regains his spirit and accepts the quest just like before.
“Just defeat three monsters that fly in the sky and emit poison.
(It's about Forest Quimby. It's easy to understand, it's easy to understand, but... the difficulty has been raised again~)
Forest Quimby is a monster that pops alone in the depths of the western forest, and is the monster that Hyde avoids fighting on the first day of the game. If it's my current status after leveling up, it's just fighting
The problem, then, is where Forrest Quimby pops. Forest Quimby pops in open areas of the West Forest unlike other monsters. For other players, there is no problem since they can fight in a place where they have an open field of view, but in Hyde's case... especially for Hyde who is currently on a quest, it's a big problem.
(That bee that pops in a relatively open area will surely be found if you attack it with a special attack like before, because there is no place to hide nearby. You can't defeat it, so if you attack it, you need to hide immediately so that you can't be found.)
Until now, when I defeated a linked monster without being detected, I used [Throwing] or [Flying] not only with weapons, but also with knives. However, [Throw] and [Flying Attack] do too little damage compared to attacks with weapons. Even goblins and other monsters take less damage, so it's easy to imagine that it would take a considerable amount of time to defeat Forest Quimby, which has a higher VIT than that, with just [Throw] or [Flying Attack]. I had to repeat it three times.
(...I've come this far, so I'll try it. Seriously, it looks like it's going to take the most time...I just need to be able to concentrate.)
Hyde took a deep breath and changed his dejected mood from the premonition of the endurance battle, and started running towards the western forest again.
◇◇◇
(……………………T, tired)
Although it took a long time, Hyde successfully defeated the three Forest Quimbies and returned to the Forest Hut. He's quite exhausted from the quests he's done so far, thanks to his full use of his concentration and intuition.
(If I can't use the reward with this, I'll seriously punch this old man without asking questions.)
Hyde stood in front of the old man while thinking about something rather disturbing, perhaps because of fatigue. Seeing such Hyde in front of him, the old man gave a cheerful smile to the returning Hyde.
"Umu. It's wonderful. Then I'll give you the promised item."
Saying so, the old man handed out a scroll from his pocket to Hyde. When Hyde received the scroll, he looked at the information about the skills the scroll gave him.
[hidden form]
Invisible for 30 seconds after skill activation. Can't be activated if a monster or player is looking at it.
Removes skills when attacking or contacting monsters or players. Can be reused after ten minutes.
Usable number of times, 5 times a day. The number of times it can be used recovers every hour.
Acquisition conditions
Clear a dedicated quest.
(……It was a skill that could be used in a mess.
"Hmm... You're excellent. Let me teach you something special. Follow me."
After saying that, the old man entered the hut, and Hyde entered the hut later. The old man who entered the hut takes out a map from a drawer and spreads it out to Hyde.
(This is the general map of the northern forest, isn't it? Is it another new quest? I also got a reward, so I don't think it's a boulder...)
The old man pointed to a corner of the map without paying attention to Hyde who was staring at the map with a dubious face.
"There's a cave around here. If you're lucky, you should be able to get something that will help you.
The place the old man pointed to was a relatively shallow place, like the forest hut, but a place where the appearance rate of monsters was extremely low. Because the appearance rate is so low, many players searched around this area thinking that there must be something there, but in the end they came to the conclusion that there was nothing. If this map is correct, it looks like they just couldn't find it.
"..."
"..."
Hyde waited a few minutes for the old man to give him some information or hint about the dungeon, but the old man said only the location of the dungeon and then went silent.
(...I don't have any more information. If that's the case, I can't help but stay here.)
Realizing that the old man had nothing to say, Hyde left the hut.
(... I'll leave the dungeon for tomorrow, and I'll log out today. It's dangerous to go in such an exhausted state.)
Hyde let out a deep sigh as soon as he left the mountain hut, judging that it was dangerous to explore the dungeon while his concentration was exhausted from the quest, even though his head was dull from fatigue, and he logged out.
The main character basically doesn't speak alone (unless there are other players). Thanks to that, only NPCs spoke... Hyde will be able to speak later.
About
goblins in the northern forest There is information in the original that there are goblins in the northern forest, and when Maple uses [Provoke], five goblins attack Maple along with other monsters around. There was also.
However, there was no other information, and since the Northern Forest never appeared again, I decided on the number of Goblin Links and the encounter rate based on the original.
About the distribution of
monsters For some monsters, I decided on the original distribution by referring to what was written in the original work.
The original part is "Forest Quimby is only in the west forest" and "There are few monsters other than goblins in the depths of the forest where there are explosive ladybirds".
Both are original elements to increase the difficulty of this quest.
Original Quest
Quest [Anbu Trial 1-3]
Quest occurrence conditions: Defeat a certain number of monsters or more and go to the quest location without being witnessed by any monsters or players.
Quest Location: North side of the first floor. A forest hut in the outback of a place where the number and types of monsters are decreasing.
Quest content
Defeat the specified number of monsters specified by the NPC grandfather. At that time, the number of monsters to defeat is too many or too few and fails. Defeating unspecified monsters also fails.
There is no time limit, but monsters and players must not be seen during the quest, and the quest will fail if you log out. (It's a completely meaningless setting because Hyde succeeded in one shot, but once it fails, it can't be reordered.)
Quest reward: Skill [hidden] scroll and dungeon location (meaningful)
The meaningful part of the quest reward I will talk about next time. Next time will be the dungeon.
